Linda Rabin graduated from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and is one of the pioneers of modern dance in Quebec. She cofounded the Montreal contemporary dance school LADMMI (now École de danse contemporaine de Montréal) in 1981, and was appointed a member of the Order of Canada and the Ordre de l’excellence en éducation du Québec. Her teaching draws on somatic approaches, dance, voice and theater exercises. She facilitates artists from all walks of life in their personal and creative processes. The workshops she offers in Continuum, a practice that is now at the heart of her teaching, are greatly appreciated both in Montreal and internationally.
LINDA RABIN
A pioneer of dance in Canada, Linda Rabin has over 50 years of experience in dance, teaching, coaching and artistic direction. As a Somatic Movement Educator, she accompanies artists and individuals from all backgrounds on a journey that encourages the realization of their personal and creative process, both on stage and in their daily lives.
A graduate of the Juilliard School (BFA in dance, 1967), she worked as Rehearsal Director and teacher for Israel’s Batsheva Company and with Ballet Rambert in London, England. Since 1974, she has taught and choreographed across Canada for many of the country’s major dance companies, professional schools and university dance programs. Her unique perspective on dance was deeply informed by her studies in the 1960s and 70s, the Alexander technique with Rika Cohen & Katya Michaeli, Pilates with Bob Fitzgerald, Ideokinesis with Lulu Sweigard, Kinetic Awareness with Elaine Summers, as well as Voice and Theater with Ann Skinner and Richard Pochinko.
The desire to integrate mainstream dance training with creative and personal processes inspired her to found, in 1981, with her colleague Candace Loubert, Les ateliers de danse moderne de Montréal (LADMMI), today the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, one of the most renowned contemporary dance schools in Canada.
Twenty-five years ago, Linda Rabin turned her attention to Somatic Education. She studied Experiential Anatomy and Infant Developmental Movement Patterns with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen to become a certified practitioner of Body-Mind Centering®. In 1998, Linda discovered Continuum and followed intensive studies with founder Emilie Conrad and her colleague Susan Harper, creator of Continuum Montage. Three years later, she became an authorized teacher. While Continuum remains at the heart of her practice today, Linda also draws from her rich background in dance, theater, Body-Mind Centering® and other somatic studies.
She leads workshops internationally, in her hometown of Montreal, elsewhere in Canada, Europe, Asia and Israel. Her love of travel, languages and encounters with other cultures inspire her to explore the world. Linda shares her life passion with people from all walks of life: movement as art and healing, as a way of life knowledge and spiritual practice.
In 2018, Linda Rabin was appointed Distinguished Member of the Order of Excellence in Education (Quebec), and she became a member of the Order of Canada the following year.
