Winner of the second edition of the Étincelle prize, Nicolas Zemmour is recognized for his impressive range of dance activities and initiatives in the Eastern Townships, notably with the organization of the ImproDanse soirée and the Festival de danse contemporaine de Sherbrooke. His commitment to the production and dissemination of dance, and his contribution to the training of dancers from his region and beyond, have been particularly highlighted. His approach is distinguished by the accessibility and quality of his work as a choreographer, coordinator and producer of dance events. Artistic director and performer committed to his region
Choreographer and performer born in 1987, Nicolas Zemmour emigrated to Sherbrooke in 2019, where he founded the ZemmourBallet company thanks to the support of the Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré and the City of Sherbrooke. In January 2020, he also joins the Cégep de Sherbrooke and Bishop’s University as a professor. With Marc Berger, he has also written a book on his method of choreographic creation, published by JFD in 2021. In 2022, the company became a permanent CASJB company, leaving a lasting imprint on the Eastern Townships with its 4th dance festival, the Festival de danse contemporaine de Sherbrooke. In his choreographic works, marked by their commitment and scope, Nicolas Zemmour tackles important social and political issues.
