Laureate 2019

Work presented in Montreal in 2018-2019 Through My Eyes, Maison culturelle et communautaire de Montréal-Nord, September, 16, 2018.

The members of the selection committee were dazzled by this sophisticated work which reveals to us the world through the eyes of early childhood. We are witnesses to what animates, attracts, and challenges children, which, evidently, was just as successful in engaging the adult members of this jury. Everything in this production contributed to creating a captivating show: movement, scenography, lighting, costumes, music. From beginning to end, each choice is wise, creative, and remarkable. Each choreographic tableau is a demonstration of all the expertise at work, and how much attention has been given to each and every detail. This work is well on its way to reaching a wide audience in Quebec and beyond, which is something the committee was delighted to note, believing, without a doubt, that it will have a significant impact on young audiences creations.

Bouge de là – Hélène Langevin, Artistic Director and Choreographer

Founded in 2000 by Choreographer and Artistic Director Hélène Langevin, the company Bouge de là creates, produces, distributes and promotes high-quality contemporary dance works for young audiences. The company remains, to this day, one of the few professional dance companies in Quebec devoted exclusively to creating dance for children. The company also develops a multitude of cultural mediation activities for children and families in order to deepen the spectator’s experience and to contribute to the development and promotion of dance.

Bouge de là puts children at the heart of its approach by offering them a beneficial and joyful contact to dance, an experience that appeals to their senses while giving them the incentive to move. The company seeks to allow as many children as possible to discover dance, to express themselves through movement, and to experience the pleasure of dancing together–hoping that this discovery will have a significant and lasting influence on them.

By fusing dance with other artistic disciplines (video, theatre, shadow play), the company presents contemporary dance performances full of humor and poetry in eight repertoire works: La tribu Hurluberlu(2000), Like the 5 Fingers on your Hand (2003), CHUT!! (2005), Old Thomas and the Little Fairy (2008), The Studio (2010), Bedtime! (2013), The 26 Letter Dance (2016) and Through My Eyes (2018). To this day, there have been over 1,200 presentations of the company’s work everywhere in Canada, recently in China, and soon in Mexico, reaching nearly 300,000 young spectators all over the world. In 2017, Bouge de là launched 26 cartes à danser, a unique educational and artistic game card that had a resounding success in the school community and families, first in Quebec and then in Canada and even in Europe.
